Officials in the Village of Johnson City are talking about the appearance of the Center Village district following the receipt of a $10,000 award for streetscape design.

The Village competed against Endicott and the Town of Union for a chance to improve the appearance of storefronts on Main Street.

Architects from Haas Landscaping met with residents and elected officials recently to outline their ideas.  The proposal includes installation of trees, better signs, improved parking and new benches and garbage cans.

Some painting and other improvements to storefronts had already begun prior to the award of grant using private funds.

Village officials say improving the look of Center Village is expected to help existing Johnson City businesses and attract new ones.
