Police say they are waiting for lab results concerning possible accelerants used to start the October 19 fire on Floral Avenue in Johnson City that left 3-year-old Michael Maxwell and his 4-year-old brother, Joshua, dead.

Authorities say a police K9, trained to detect accelerants had indicated on several spots in the apartment house and that is being further investigated.

38 year old Dwight Burton of Johnson City is accused of setting the fire at around 1:45 a.m. and is charged with murder and arson.

27 year old Erica Kurtz and 27 year old Jessica Baxter escaped but were severely burned.  They were last reported in critical condition at Upstate University Hospital’s burn unit.

An obituary in the Binghamton Press and Sun Bulletin says funeral arrangements for the children are pending.

Meanwhile, a number of donation sites for the family have been appearing on social media.
