42-year-old Salih Shabazz of Johnson City had been convicted in July of two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. He also was found guilty of two counts of criminally using drug paraphernalia.

Shabazz had been arrested February 26 at a residence on Harrison Street in the village. He was convicted of possessing more than 180 packets of heroin with intent to sell.

Broome County Court Judge Kevin Dooley found Shabazz guilty in a three-day non-jury trial. Dooley sentenced Shabazz on Wednesday.

Prosecutors said Shabazz had faced up to 12 years in prison.

In addition to the ten-year prison term, Shabazz was sentenced to three years post-release supervision.
