A man has been accused of punching his girlfriend at a Johnson City home while she was holding their five-month-old child.

Authorities say 30-year-old Matthew Goeckel of Johnson City faces two felony counts following the incident in a North Harrison Street residence.

According to village police, Goeckel was charged with aggravated family offense and criminal contempt. He also was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and harassment.

Investigators say Goeckel was arrested Sunday after he was found by Vestal police.

Officers had been called around 8:20 p.m. to investigate a reported domestic dispute.

Goeckel allegedly punched the woman while she was holding their child, causing her to pass out. The woman then locked herself in a bathroom.

Goeckel is accused of kicking open the bathroom door and punching the woman in the mouth. He had left the scene by the time police were called.

Police say Goeckel violated an order of protection that had been issued by Vestal town court. He was arraigned and sent to Broome County Jail.
