Johnson City Man Charged with Rape of Child

Authorities say a 30-year-old registered sex offender has been charged with rape in a case involving a child in Johnson City.

According to village police, Islam Greene of Johnson City was arrested on Tuesday.

Investigators say Greene is accused of having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old child. He was arraigned in Union town court and sent to Broome County Jail.

Detectives say Greene is a "Level Two" registered sex offender.

According to the New York State sex offender registry, Greene was convicted of sexual battery in Virginia. Records indicate that case involved sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl in February 2006.

The registry shows Greene had received a 12-month local jail sentence which had been stayed.
