The reason behind a stop in Binghamton by a powerful House Republican August 6th remains unclear. Local elected officials say they didn't even know Congressman John Boehner was going to be in town.

A quick switch of reservations left Binghamton demonstrators, who received leaked information about the Republican's stop, at the wrong restaurant.  The activists, bearing signs concerning natural gas drilling and jobs were at the Number 5 restaurant on the South Side for an anticipated 8 p.m. appearance, but Boehner was a no-show.

At the last minute, the Ohio Congressman's reservation was cancelled and another reservation was made for a party of eight across town at Cortese Restaurant on the East Side under the name 'John.'

Staff at the eatery told reporters that Boehner and his party indicated they were just passing through on their way west.
