Jim "Mudcat" Grant is back to host his 17th annual All-Star Golf Tournament tomorrow (Thursday) at the Links at Hiawatha Landing. Grant headlines the event organized and coordinated by Security Mutual Life headquartered in Binghamton.  Grant, long-time Major League pitcher, is joined by fellow "Black Aces" J.R. Richard and Al Downing and 35 other celebrities and sports greats.  The "Black Aces" are comprised of African-American Major league pitchers who have won 20 or more games in a single season.

Many participants come back every year to take part in the festivities.  Former New York Met Art Shamsky will take part in the tournament as will former New York Yankee Ron Blomberg.

Other sports celebrities expected to compete include baseball standouts like: George Foster, Cliff Johnson, Vern Law and Al Oliver, Jr; football standouts  Pete Johnson, Leroy Kelly, Fred Williamson and Johnnie Roland and from basketball: Gerry McNamara, Roosevelt Bouie and Coach Tommy Dempsey.

Net proceeds from the tournament go to help educational, recreational and wellness programs in the area.  According to a media release from Security Mutual Life those organizations directly benefiting from the tournament include the Broome County Urban League, the Boys and Girls Clubs in Binghamton, Catholic Charities of Broome County as well as CHOW.

Bruce Boyea, President and CEO of Security Mutual Life will appear with Roger Neel tomorrow (Thursday) morning at 8:10 AM to talk about the tournament.  He will be joined by "Mudcat" Grant, Al Downing and others on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
