The annual Jim "Mudcat" Grant All Star Golf Tournament is returning to the Links at Hiawatha Landing September 1.

Speaking on the August 27 edition of the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, the head of one of the benefiting charities, Lori Accardi from Catholic Charities of Broome County talks about the history of the tournament, why one of the original "Black Aces" pitchers, Jim "Mudcat" Grant became involved in wanting to support the Greater Binghamton community and his important message to young people that they can achieve whatever they set their sights on.

In addition to Catholic Charities, the tournament, featuring 35 professional players and "normal people", benefits The Urban League, the Binghamton Boys and Girls Club, the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) and the U.S. Military.

Organizers are still looking for more donations of prizes, big and small for the tournament.

More information can be found at the All Star Golf Tournament website or by contacting Security Mutual in Binghamton.

WNBF listeners will also be treated to Roger Neel talking to "Mudcat" and other celebrities during the 8 a.m. hour of First News.

Southern Tier Close Up is heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF
