The James Madison Dukes proved too much for the Binghamton Bearcats May 15 in the opening round of the NCAA Regional Softball Tournament in Harrisonburg, Va.  The Dukes mercy-ruled Binghamton 10-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Megan Good hit a double to drive in two runs and end the game for James Madison.

The Dukes used timely hitting against both Bearcat starter Sarah Miller and relief pitcher Cara Martin to earn the win. Lisa Cadogan hit her 11th home run of the season for BU. James Madison enters the tournament as the 17th-ranked team in the nation.  The win ups their record to 48-8.  BU falls to 24-20.

Earlier in the day N.C.State topped Fordham 12-5.  Fordham is coached by Bridget Baxter Orchard, a Binghamton native.  The Rams and Biearcats meet May 16 at 4:30 in an elimination game.  Fordham topped the Bearcats earlier this season 6-4.

Prior to the Binghamton versus Fordham game N.C.State meets James Madison in a winner's bracket game. at 2:00.  The loser of that game will face the BU-Fordham winner at 7:00 p.m.
