A Schenectady couple admits running a Jamaican-based lottery scam targeting mainly elderly victims all over the United States.

37 year old Kimberly Powell and 25 year old Jeragh Powell would tell victims they won a lottery prize but had to pay tens of thousands of dollars in taxes and fees or shipping and handling.

Both pleaded guilty to mail fraud.

Federal Prosecutors say the pair received over $67,000 from the victims and forwarded a large portion of the money to Jeragh Powell’s associates in Jamaica.

Each faces up to 20 years in prison.
