A Binghamton man is accused of breaking into a home in the Town of Chenango July 4.

Broome County Sheriff’s officials say shortly before 7 a.m. the owner of the home on State Route 12 was in his living room when he saw a man standing in his kitchen. The man apparently came in through a back door.

When the resident yelled at the intruder, 46 year old Frederick Bartholomew reportedly lunged at him, tried to take his phone and other items.  The homeowner was able to restrain Bartholomew and call 911.

Deputies say Bartholomew continued to struggle with the resident until they arrived.

Bartholomew is charged with felony burglary and was sent to the Broome County Jail without bail

The homeowner suffered minor cuts to both arms and legs during the scuffle.
