New York State Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo is praising the passage of a bill in the waning days of the legislative session that would clear the way for processing, transportation, sale and distribution of industrial hemp.

The Endwell Democrat partnered with Senator Tom O’Mara to promote the legislation that puts New York in line for a piece of a multi-billion dollar global market for the fiber.

In a news release issued by Lupardo’s office, supporters said the stalk and seed from hemp can be use in production of such products as building materials, textiles, body products, food and biofuels.  Hemp also contains cannabidoil which is used in medical marijuana applications.

The Assembly unanimously passed the bill June 2nd while the Senate gave its unanimous approval on Tuesday, June 14.
