The move toward developing the industrial hemp industry in New York State is continuing to go forward with an open house and informational meeting planned for September 26 in Endicott.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo (D-Endwell) is a strong advocate of the initiative.

The meeting will be held starting at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 26 at 2095 Route 26.

Lupardo and the owners of Nanticoke Gardens recently announced the start of a hemp growing operation in Broome County for the first time in 80 years.

Those wanting to attend the informational meeting should register by calling (607) 391-2660 or 391-2672.

Cornell cooperative Extension and a representative of Southern Tier Hemp are also expected to speak about the growing process and use of the fiber.

Registration is also being accepted at scnydfc.cce.cornell.edu.

Yesterday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced an open solicitation for farmers, businesses and research institutions interested in growing and processing industrial hemp.  The solicitation ends November 22.
