Area law enforcement agencies report over a thousand pounds of unwanted and expired medications won’t be ending up in the wrong hands, area landfills or waste water systems.

The latest Drug Take Back Day is being called a success with the Broome County Sheriff’s office reporting about 1,200 pounds of drugs being taken in for proper disposal.

Tioga County reported 200 pounds of unwanted medications turned in while the Waverly Police Department transported 530 pounds of drugs to Syracuse for disposal.  That amount included the 200 pounds collected Saturday, April 30 and 330 pounds of medications left in the Medication Drop Boxes at the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office and Waverly Police Department.
