A Tioga County woman is charged with unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine following a blast June 20 that blew out the front door and brick siding of a house on Route 38 in Newark Valley.

23 year old Melissa Callahan was sent to the Tioga County Jail on $20,000 bail.

A man in the house reportedly suffered burns over much of his body. He was taken to Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in Johnson City. His name and condition have not been released.

Authorities say Callahan is accused of cooking meth in the house at around 3 in the afternoon when the volatile chemicals exploded.

Pieces of the house were said to have been found by responding fire fighters up to fifty feet away.

Officials say the house will be demolished.

Newark Valley, Village of Owego and West Corners fire departments responded to the scene.

Officials say at first they thought they were responding to a fairly routine house fire before discovering the damage from an explosion.
