A man sought in the deaths of two people was spotted by a state trooper driving a vehicle on Interstate 81 in the town of Chenango early today.

Authorities say 46-year-old Robert Mroczek was pursued from Broome County into Cortland County.

Stop stick devices were used in the town of Cortlandville, causing the vehicle to go into a ditch off the highway.

State police say Mroczek then apparently shot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say Mroczek was suspected of fatally shooting his estranged wife, 49-year-old Pammi Mroczek, and her boyfriend, 51-year-old Daniel Brennan.

Police say Brennan's body was found in the driveway of the Palenville home where Mroczek had previously lived with his wife. Troopers with a Special Operations Response team later found Pammi Mroczek's body inside the house.

State police say Robert Mroczek was a state parole officer. Police were sent to the Greene County residence Sunday afternoon to investigate a report that shots had been fired.
