Homeless Man Assaults Waverly Woman

A man, who lists no permanent address, is accused of kicking in the front door of a Waverly woman’s Howard Street apartment and slashing her with a pocket knife.

Police say 35 year old Jason Mertzig allegedly entered the woman’s bedroom and assaulted her.

He is charged with felony burglary, criminal contempt and assault. He’s also charged with violating an order of protection.

Mertzig was sent to the Tioga County Jail.
