A New Jersey man is in custody following a high-speed chase in Cortland County.

New York State Police say they stopped 24 year old Jesus Izquierdo of Camden on Interstate 81 north in Cortlandville August 27 for speeding.

Troopers say as they approached his car, Izquierdo sped off, recklessly passing vehicles in both lanes, doing over 100 miles an hour.  After about a 14 minute pursuit, troopers were able to stop Izquierdo in Tully.

Authorities say they determined the man was driving while impaired by drugs and a probable cause search of the vehicle turned up a small amount of marijuana and three and a half oxycodone pills.

Izquierdo is charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer, criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving while ability impaired by drugs, unlawful possession of marijuana, reckless driving and a long list of traffic violations.

Troopers say the New Jersey man consented to a blood test, which was conducted at Cortland Regional Hospital and the results are pending.

Izquierdo was sent to the Cortland County Jail on $5,000 bail.
