High Speed Chase in Broome & Cortland Counties Ends in Death
Authorities say the driver of a vehicle that was pursued by police through Broome and Cortland Counties is dead.
Around 1 a.m. August 11 law enforcement officials attempted to stop a black Monte Carlo on Interstate 81 that was traveling at a high rate of speed.
New York State Police believed the car was driven by a suspect in a double murder that had happened in Greene County, New York.
According to reports, the driver was traveling at over 140 miles an hour when his car hit a stop stick deployed between marathon and McGraw and the vehicle careened into a ditch.
That portion of the interstate was closed until about 5:30 a.m.
The investigation is continuing and authorities have not released the name of the man.
