High School Football State Quarter-Finals Here This Weekend

Section 4 Champion football teams will be in action close to home  this weekend.  Section 3 and Section 4 alternate years as host of the quarterfinal round of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association playoffs.  This is Section 4's year.

Play begins tomorrow night with a pair of games.  In a Class D match-up Herkimer with a 9-1 record meets unbeaten Tioga at Union-Endicott's Ty Cobb Stadium at 7 PM.  Across the river at Dick Hoover Stadium in Vestal the U-E Tigers meet Carthage in a Class A battle.  Carthage is 9-1 while the Tigers are 7-3.

On Saturday three games will be played at Union-Endicott.  Kicking off the day will be a Noon contest pitting Chenango Forks against General Brown in a Class C battle.  Both sport 9-1 slates.  At 3 PM in a AA match-up it will be a battle of the unbeatens.  Christian Brothers Academy squares off against the Elmira Express.  Then at 6 PM the Maine-Endwell Spartans meet Cazenovia in a B quarter-final.  Both are 10-0.  The Spartans are looking for their third consecutive state championship.
