The high school football season kicked off this weekend .  Two area teams opened their season in the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.On Friday Syracuse CBA rolled by the U-E Tigers 56-32.  The Tigers host Elmira this Saturday evening in their home opener.

The Maine-Endwell Spartans fared better as they picked up where they left off the last two seasons...posting a victory.  Saturday M-E topped Section 3's Nottingham High 31-7.  Darnell Woolfolk racked-up 72 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns and Kyle Balmer tossed a 53-yard touchdown pass to Adam Gallagher to key the Spartans' victory.  M-E will face one of its biggest tests this season when the Spartans host Binghamton Saturday afternoon.  Maine-Endwell has now won 26 games in a row.

The Patriots also had a big opening-night win as they clobbered the Johnson City Wildcats 34-7.  Amman Weaver paced the  Binghamton attack with 176 yards rushing and three touchdowns.  Quarterback Dan Jeffery scored a pair of TD's on the ground for the Pats as well.

Saturday night the Vestal Golden Bears crushed Norwich 46-9 at Dick Hoover Stadium.  It was all Golden Bears as quarterback Nick Wegmann fired 4 touchdown passes and mixed-in an effective ground game led by Zach Cook and Pat Carlin.  Vestal plays at Corning Thursday night and then returns home to face rival Union-Endicott on Friday, September 20.
