A helicopter that was being used by New York State Electric and Gas to inspect transmission lines in Steuben County crashed around midday Thursday.

Police at the scene in the city of Corning reported there were no survivors.

Authorities reported two people were dead in the aftermath of the crash.

NYSEG spokesman Clayton Ellis said the helicopter that crash was not owned by the utility. He said it was a contracted service.

Ellis said NYSEG was cooperating with the authorities involved with the crash investigation.
