Residents who are finding it hard to pay their heating bills this winter have another chance of getting financial assistance.

New York State officials have announced additional funding is available for the Home Energy Assistance Program, or “HEAP”, even for residents who had already applied for help and been granted assistance.

People who are facing the threat of having their utility service turned off, whose family earns up to 53-thousand, 500-dollars a year could qualify for assistance.

Officials say this winter, they have seen a 40 percent increase in HEAP requests.

Applications are being accepted now at the offices of local social services agencies.
