An 80th birthday celebration is being held in the Village of Johnson City, marking the anniversary of the dedication of the Johnson City Post Office on Main Street.

The current building was dedicated on August 5, 1935 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Buildings in 1989.

The lobby of the historic building sports a large mural by Frederic Charles Knight.

The post office was named the James W. McCabe Senior Post Office Building by an act of Congress on October 19, 2000 to honor the former New York State Assemblyman who had also served as a Mayor of the Village.

While the post office remains open and has mail box and counter service, many other aspects have been consolidated with the main post office in the City of Binghamton.
