Guilty Plea in Major Broome County Cocaine Trafficking Case

A Binghamton man faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced in August for drug trafficking.

33 year old Juan Martinez has pleaded guilty to felony narcotics trafficking conspiracy.

Martinez and 23 year old Johnny Ortiz are accused of running cocaine from New Jersey to points in the Southern Tier.

Ortiz pleaded guilty in February and is to be sentenced next month.

The pair was alleged to be involved with the gangs, Latin Kings and Medievals.

The men bought drugs from a large-scale dealer, conspiring to deal over 500 grams of cocaine and 280 grams of crack cocaine in Broome County from January to September of last year.

Federal investigators as well as New York State Police and Binghamton Police had beeen investigating suspected drug activity in the region since November, 2011.
