The Vestal Church that was destroyed by fire in May is being torn down.

Crews have begun razing the Grace Lutheran Church at Hazel and Main Streets.

Fire investigators blamed an electrical malfunction in the basement of the church that happened minutes after a meeting had ended at the building on the evening of May 18.  There were no injuries.

The congregation has been meeting at Memorial Park Baptist Church.

Firefighters spent three hours on the scene trying to control the fire that was reported at around 9:45 p.m. and some crews remained at the scene for days looking for and putting out hot spots.
