Renovations and improvements are being made to the Shorr Family Firehouse Stage at the Goodwill Theatre in Johnson City.

The arts group had received a $250,000 New York State Grant that will allow for repairs in the basement, work on the second and third floor for rehearsal and seminar space, a lobby, window replacement and foundation and exterior brick work.

Goodwill Theatre CEO Niama Kradjian says the investment is validates the initial belief of supporters that investments in performing arts venues at the corner of Willow Street and Corliss Avenue could be a driving force in revitalization for the center village area of Johnson City.

The area and arts developments are also expected to be boosted by the future Binghamton University pharmacy school and relocation of the University nursing school.
