The Vestal Golden Bears host long-time rival Union-Endicott in high school football this Friday night at 7 ( 6:55 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF)  at Dick Hoover Stadium.  The Golden Bears are 2-0 and U-E is winless at 0-2.  But as followers of both sides know records mean little when these two collide on the gridiron.

Vestal has shown a high-powered offense in their first two games.  They have scored 46 and 30 points in the first two outings to average 38 points per game.  They have utilized both an air attack and an excellent ground game.

After chalking up 46 points opening night against Norwich Vestal rocked Corning's defense for 30 points to win 30-13 last Thursday.  Zach Cook had a superb game as he ran for 232 yards and one touchdown on 26 carries vs the Hawks.  Nick Wegmann added 150 more yards on the ground from his quarterback position.

The U-E Tigers have shown a solid offense also but they need a way to keep opponents out of the end zone.  The Tigers lost 56-32 in the Carrier Dome to Section three foe CBA in opening weekend action.  Then last Saturday they got into a shootout with Elmira at Ty Cobb Stadium.  The final ended with Elmira on top 38-33.

In the loss to Elmira running back Sammy Davis racked up 173 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 29 carries.  C J Krowiak grabbed nine passes for 140 yards and U-E amassed 397 yards in total offense.  Quarterback Joey Orlando can throw the ball as well as anyone in Section 4.  If the Tigers find the key to their defense this could be one that goes right down to the final possession.
