Go Red for Women Day is set for this Friday, February 3rd.  Go Red for Women is promoted by the American Heart Association and is intended to draw attention to the fight against heart disease and stroke.  According to figures released by the American Heart Association cardiovascular disease kills at least one woman every 80 seconds in the United States.

Medical experts and the American Heart Association maintain that 80 percent of cardiac events  could be prevented through changes in lifestyle and education. Macy's sponsors Go Red for Women nationwide.  The Go Red for Women movement highlights the need for education and research in the fight against heart disease and stroke. According to the American Heart Association heart disease is the leading killer of women in the USA and more than one in three women is living with some form of heart disease.

The American Heart Association is urging everyone to wear red this Friday to promote the fight against heart disease.  Locally,  Security Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York at the corner of Court and Exchange Streets in Binghamton will participate by lighting up their building in red.  They will then keep the building red throughout the month of February which is American Heart Month.
