The Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways are hosting a Hunger Banquet to benefit the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.

According to Oxfam America, typical Hunger Banquets promote international poverty awareness. At the event, 15% of the guests are served a gourmet meal. 35% of participants are served a filling meal of beans and rice while the remaining 50% of guests sit on the floor and have plain rice and water.

The Girl Scouts, however will be participating in an interactive experience to promote awarenes and inspire the Scouts to become active in their communities regarding hunger and poverty issues. The girls will participate in the Hunger Web and Hunger Mythbusters and mirror the current situation in the Southern Tier through the meal options offered.

The Girl Scouts Hunger Banquet is being held tonight at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Center in Vestal.
