Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is proposing legislation she says would improve financial security for working women.

Speaking Monday at Ithaca College, Gillibrand called for raising the minimum wage and the creation of paid family medical leave.

Gillibrand said her proposal also would make child care more accessible and ensure equal pay for equal work.

The Democratic senator noted more women are working than in the past. She said the changes she's supporting would offer women an opportunity to "achieve their full financial potential."
