Democrat Jason Garnar has defeated Republican Broome County Executive Debra Preston.

The 39-year-old Garnar coasted to an easy victory over Preston, who took office in 2012.

With all of the county's election districts reporting, Garnar had defeated Preston by a 55 to 45 percent margin.

Garnar thanked his supporters who gathered with area Democrats at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Binghamton Tuesday night.

Preston is facing questions about her use of a credit card when she was Town of Conklin supervisor.

The county executive four weeks before Election Day acknowledged that she had purchased personal items using a town credit card. Preston said she eventually paid all of the money owed.

During a brief meeting with reporters in her office, Preston apologized and vowed she would not quit.

Schuyler County District Attorney Joseph Fazzary has been appointed special prosecutor to review the issues surrounding the inappropriate use of the town credit card.
