Nearly a year after the landmark Crowley Foods plant on Binghamton's South Side was shut down, there's still no word on what will happen with the property.

The plug was pulled on the Conklin Avenue milk processing facility March 16. About 54 people who worked at the plant lost their jobs.

Massachusetts-based HP Hood - current owner of Crowley Foods - three months earlier had announced it intended to close the old Binghamton plant to shift production to more modern facilities.

In making the announcement that milk production would end in the city, Hood said it would continue to employ about eighty people locally in various positions.

Hood spokeswoman Lynne Bohan told WNBF News Crowley Foods has a corporate office on Pennsylvania Avenue in Binghamton.

Bohan was not able to comment on the future of the Conklin Avenue site.

Binghamton City Hall spokesman Andrew Block said there had been "some inquiries" about the property.

When a WNBF News reporter was at the site this week, a man stopped by to inspect the property.
