Parents of children who attend the Front Street school have launched a fundraising campaign.

The school has received support from the neighboring parish but that financial backing is not continuing.

Supporters of St. Patrick School are working to raise $500,000 by March 15 to save the school, which is the only Catholic school in Tioga County.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, principal Paula Smith said there now are 56 children enrolled in grades kindergarten through six at the school.

If the fundraising drive is successful, the school then will work to secure an enrollment of 60 children in grades Pre-K through six by the end of April.

St. Patrick School was established in 1859. Parents of students have developed a business plan in an effort to keep the school viable for the next five years.

People interested in assisting the school may contact its office at 607.687.1770. There's more information about St. Patrick School at its website.
