Fuel Thieves Drill Into Broome Car Gas Tanks

Bob Joseph/WNBF News

Three men have been accused of stealing fuel from several vehicles by drilling into gasoline tanks.

Authorities say the tanks of eight vehicles at a car dealership on Front Street in the town of Chenango were drilled. The damage was estimated at more than $4,000.

According to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, 23-year-old Donald Wilson of Binghamton; 20-year-old James Shaffer of Binghamton; and 18-year-old Ryan Bartram of Owego were arrested as a result of the investigation.

The men have been charged with second-degree criminal mischief, a felony.

Shaffer and Bartram were arrested at a nearby mobile home on Monday. Wilson was arrested today.

An investigator says police found a can of Arizona Iced Tea containing gasoline believed to have been stolen by the men.

The sheriff’s office has received no other recent reports of gasoline tank drilling incidents.
