A division of the Broome County Health Department offers free breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screenings for people that don't have insurance or are under insured.

Speaking on the July 9 edition of the weekly local public affairs show, Southern Tier Close Up, Cancer Services Program Supervisor, Carrie Horton and case manager Laura Kelly talk to host, Kathy Whyte about getting the word out about the program, who can take advantage of it and how to sign up.

Horton and Kelly also discuss the importance of the various screenings and some of the reasons, beside financial, that people don't take steps to prevent cancer.

More information can be found at the health department page on the county website: www.gobroomecounty.com or by calling (607) 778-3918.

Southern Tier Close Up is heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
