Several months after Broome County mental health officials announced they were developing a cellular telephone application for residents to identify risk of suicide, the app. is officially being launched.

Broome County Executive Debra Preston, Deputy Commissioner of Mental Health, Katie Cusano and the Broome County Suicide Awareness for Family and Educators, also known as the B.C. SAFE committee of the Promise Zone announced the feature is available at no charge for the IPhone and Android smart phones.

Speaking on Southern Tier Close Up September 20 on News Radio 1290 WNBF, Melinda Kametz of the Broome County Health Department Mental Health Division said users can select noticed behaviors and receive guidance about the seriousness of the situation.

The app. also provides a link to the state suicide prevention hotline.
