Opponents to high-volume hydraulic fracture drilling for natural gas in New York State are applauding the decision by state officials to keep a ban on fracking in place indefinitely.

While the anti-frackers have been gathering at the annual state of the state address and other appearances by the governor for years to push for the ban, January 21 they traveled to Albany to hold a rally to thank the governor for the decision to prohibit the controversial drilling process.

Meanwhile, those who would benefit from natural gas exploration gathered in front of the governmental complex in Downtown Binghamton to protest the ban.

The Joint Landowners Coalition of New York gathered in the cold and said they have even taken their argument to Washington, meeting with 23rd District Congressman, Republican Tom Reed of Steuben County.

The Coalition says the ban snuffs out the potential for an influx of jobs and revenue for the Southern Tier and Central New York.
