Three members of an Endicott family are getting preventive treatment for rabies exposure after being bitten over the weekend by a fox on Robble Avenue.

A boy, his stepsister and father were bitten when the animal attacked Saturday evening.

A fox was killed after charging an Endicott Police officer the next day, but it’s not clear if it was the same animal that attacked the family.

That fox’s head is being tested for rabies with results expected later this week.

Officials with the Broome County Health Department say anyone seeing an animal acting strangely should contact the health department at 778-3930 or their local law enforcement agency and no one should ever approach a strange animal, domestic or wild.
