Police found suspected methamphetamine in a car after the driver allegedly committed a traffic violation in Binghamton.

Authorities say the vehicle was pulled over around 1:10 a.m. Tuesday on Abbott Street on the city's East Side.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, a deputy observed the driver try to conceal a small bag between the center console and a seat.

Officials say the bag contained a substance that tested positive for the presence of meth. More than four ounces of suspected meth was confiscated from the vehicle.

Investigators say 30-year-old Brent Birtch of Great Bend faces two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. He also was charged with criminally using drug paraphernalia, possession of a forged instrument and aggravated unlicensed operation.

Birtch was arraigned and sent to Broome County Jail without bail.
