Binghamton police have arrested several suspects in connection with a series of robberies and vehicle thefts on the city's West Side.

Authorities say three of the suspects are from Binghamton: 16-year-old Aali Tillman was charged with robbery, 17-year-old James Carmichael was charged with grand larceny, and a 15-year-old boy was charged with grand larceny and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The fourth suspect is a 12-year-old Johnson City boy who has been charged with robbery.

The arrests were announced Friday, February 12 by Mayor Richard David and Police Chief Joseph Zikuski.

The youths are believed to be responsible for a least five robberies on the city's West Side. Four of those who were robbed are Binghamton University students. They were attacked as they were walking.

Tillman and Carmichael were arraigned in Binghamton City Court and sent to Broome County Jail. The cases of the younger suspects will be handled by family court.

Zikuski said all four suspects have "an extensive history" in the juvenile justice system.

The chief said the youths appeared to view the criminal activity as something of a game. He said it seemed to be "almost a joy thing" to target unsuspecting people.

Detectives expect to make more arrests and file more charges in connection with the recent string of robberies and assaults on the West Side.
