Gloria Meredith has been chosen to serve as the founding dean for Binghamton University's School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The appointment was announced today by university President Harvey Stenger.

Meredith is dean of the College of Pharmacy and a professor of pharmaceutical sciences at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois.

Meredith has served as dean at Rosalind Franklin since July 2009.

Stenger said with the selection of Meredith, faculty recruitment and curriculum development can move forward.

A facility to house the Binghamton pharmacy school is to be constructed on a five-and-a-half acre site on Corliss Avenue in Johnson City.

University officials say they hope to welcome the first class of students in August 2017.
