A long-time political leader and financial advisor in Broome County has passed away.

Former Town of Union Supervisor, Jack Cheevers died March 30 at the age of 79.

John, “Jack” Cheevers was a founder of Cheevers, Hand and Angeline investment firm and was a former chairman of the Broome County Democratic Party.

At one time, Cheevers had launched a short campaign for governor.

He had been nominated to be the Democrats’ choice to return to the Town Supervisor job in 2014 but bowed out due to health issues.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 6 at the Allen Memorial Home on  East Main Street in Endicott.  Funeral services are scheduled for 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 7 at the Memorial Home followed by a mass at the Church of the Holy Family on Phyllis Street in Endwell.
