A former Mayor of the Village of Owego is being fondly remembered for his love of his community and his dedication to protecting it through fire and emergency medical services.

William Franz passed away August 22 at the age of 76 following a brief illness.

He had been Mayor for four years and Owego Fire Chief for eight years.  He had been a member of the Emergency Squad and Captain of the emergency Squad for four years.

Hundreds turned out for calling hours August 25.

The family says memorial contributions can be made to the Croton Hose Fire Company #3, care of Thomas Donovan, 71 Talcott Street, Owego, NY 13827.
