A former employee of the Handicapped Children’s Association is awaiting further court action after pleading not guilty to felony endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person and endangering the welfare of a child.

Hilda Green of Media, Pennsylvania was named in an indictment unsealed in Broome County Court October 17 after a five year old girl with autism, who had been assigned to Green’s supervision, wandered away September 7.

The child reportedly tried to jump off the Court Street Bridge in Binghamton and ran into the Chenango River when a passerby stepped in to stop her.

Authorities received several emergency calls that day from witnesses reporting a young girl, wearing one shoe, a tee-shirt and diaper walking alone in Downtown Binghamton.

Passersby rescued the child from the river and she received medical treatment.

The Handicapped Children’s Association has not commented on the incident.
