A former Broome County mail carrier is under federal indictment for allegedly stealing gift cards from postal customers on his route.

21 year old Adam Keough is charged with theft of mail by an employee of the postal service.

The former Endicott postal worker is accused of stealing two Mirabito gift cards between January and mid June while working at the Endicott and Binghamton post offices.

Federal investigators say they sent gift cards through the mail on Keough’s route and those, too, were not delivered.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says the mail carrier was seen on surveillance film using gift cards that he was supposed to deliver.

Authorities say Keough admitted stealing between 20 and 30 pieces of mail but investigators say they found 679 pieces of mail, 11 containing gift cards, in the man’s vehicle that were not addressed to him.

Keough was released on conditional discharge following his federal grand jury indictment.
