Former Chenango Forks Fire Chief Accused in Scheme to Use Donated Vehicle

The former fire chief in Chenango Forks is accused of falsifying paperwork while he was chief in order to obtain a donated vehicle for his own use.57 year old Lewis Merrit of Chenango Forks is charged with felony offering a false instrument for filing and misdeanor official misconduct.

Broome County Sheriff's Office investigators say the vehicle had been donated to the Chenango Forks Fire Company by a Downstate, New York fireman's fund.

Lewis was arrested March 17th in the Town of Dickinson and issued an appearance ticket for City of Binghamton Court.
