Broome County has been unable to find a buyer for the building that had housed the Binghamton DMV office in the city's First Ward.

The office at 181 Clinton Street was closed more than a year ago in what was billed as a money-saving move by county officials.

The Binghamton DMV office was shifted to the downtown bus station on Chenango Street.

Pyramid Brokerage Company of Binghamton originally listed the Clinton Street property at $196,000. The price has been reduced to $175,000, according to a current listing.

Pyramid president Maureen Wilson says a prospective buyer had been interested in the site but no deal was finalized.

According to tax records, the county acquired the building for $110,000 in March 2000. For many years, the site was used as a bank branch office. The building has 5400 square feet of space.

County officials were not immediately available to comment on the effort to sell the property.

Officials had projected the plan to move the DMV office to the bus station site could save the county nearly $20,000 a year.
