A Vestal man who had been a Binghamton High School teacher has admitted he had a sexual relationship with a student.

48-year-old Timothy Lee pleaded guilty Monday in Broome County court to a felony charge of criminal sex act.

Lee was indicted last April for allegedly having inappropriate sexual contact with a girl. The first incident was said to have occurred in 2016 when the student was 16 years old.

Lee was arrested by Binghamton police on May 2.

Lee was sentenced to ten years probation by Broome County Judge Joseph Cawley. The former teacher must register as a sex offender.

According to a statement released by the Binghamton City School District after his court appearance, Lee has surrendered his teaching license.

In the statement, school superintendent Tonia Thompson said: "The district strongly condemns the actions committed by teacher."
