As deer season is set to begin in the Southern Tier, hunters are being asked to consider helping neighbors in need.

The Food Bank of the Southern Tier and the Venison Donation Program is distributing donated venison to hunger-relief member agencies in the area to go to soup kitchens and food pantries serving the hungry in Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga and Tompkins counties.

Legally tagged and properly field-dressed deer can be taken to participating processor at no cost to the hunter.

More information on the program and participating processors can be found at the Food Bank’s website www.foodbankst.org under ‘Donate Now’ or by calling (607) 796-6061.
